Eden Fanelli - Fanelli Organics

Meet Eden: An Organic Farmer Carrying Forward 80 Years of Farming in NSW

At Mangrove Mountain in New South Wales, Eden Fanelli is continuing a farming legacy that spans more than 80 years. What started with his grandmother has now become a certified organic farm producing a wide range of seasonal fruit and vegetables for Australian households.

Located on the Central Coast plateau, the farm benefits from nutrient-rich sandy lime soil and a temperate coastal climate, ideal conditions for growing everything from citrus and zucchinis to broccoli, cabbage and corn. It’s the kind of place where, depending on the season, almost anything you’d expect to find at a local market can be grown.

But while the setting may sound idyllic, the reality of modern farming in Australia is far more complex.

The Challenge of Growing Diverse Crops in Australia

One of the biggest challenges Eden faces is managing the sheer diversity of crops on his farm. Each plant requires different nutrients, care routines and timing. With crops growing at different speeds across different areas of the farm, planning and execution become a constant balancing act.

This level of variety also means significantly more labour and, being organic, requires additional practices such as growing and burning sunflowers to help enrich the soil and replace aspects that naturally get stripped away during crop production.

For many Australian farmers, these challenges are only increasing.

Why Farmers Like Eden Keep Going

Despite the pressures, Eden continues to show up every day. His connection to the land runs deep. He grew up on this farm, and now he’s raising his own children there.

For him, farming is about more than producing food. It’s about sustainability, stewardship and passing knowledge down to the next generation.

After more than a decade of transitioning to certified organic practices, Eden is beginning to see the results of that commitment. Healthier soil, stronger crops and a system that gives back to the land as much as it takes.

Supporting Local Farmers in Australia

Stories like Eden’s are increasingly important in today’s food system. Supporting Australian farmers means supporting the future of fresh, locally grown produce.

Every purchase plays a role in helping farmers continue their work—through the challenges, the seasons and the generations to come.
