Good & Fugly featured in major 7:30 report on the struggles of farmers with supermarkets

"Any measures to improve the health of the agriculture industry will help to keep prices down."

This week 7:30 reported on the recent political discussion going on around supermarkets and the way that they treat their suppliers, focusing on the impact that the strength of the supermarket negotiating position was having on everything from farmer's businesses to the price that Australians are paying for food.

As part of the report, Good & Fugly was interviewed, for our position on food aesthetics. As you know, so much good, fresh produce goes to waste because it's rejected by the supermarkets on the grounds of its aesthetics.

We're doing out bit to make this produce accessible to consumers at a low price, and helping farmers by giving them another revenue stream that isn't connected to the major supermarkets, but at the same time, we would like to see more action taken to pressure supermarkets into accepting more of this produce.

As we mention in our interview on 7:30, we have been disappointed that recent government reviews into supermarkets aren't doing more to address the aesthetic standards that supermarkets adopt.

It's not just to the benefit of the farmers. As the report makes abundantly clear, coming up with a proactive solution to this issue would do wonders for affordability.
